Soundtracks
Soundtracks introduces elementary school students to the instruments, songs, and dances of traditional music from around the world, taking them on a cultural journey through music, maps, videos and active learning.
“Soundtracks empowers students with little or no music education to explore global cultures through music, art, and geography. The students hear live performances and meet FP musicians from Africa, India, China, and Latin countries. Through the use of videos, students discover many other important “World Music” stars and explore Art, Architecture, and Geography of each region.” - Jeff Handley, Lead Teaching Artist and Creator of Soundtracks.

Curriculum:
Soundtracks provides 4-5th-grade students with six workshops lectures, video presentations, and live performances by accomplished Fulcrum Point musicians and teaching artists. These classes contextualize traditional music from Asian, Middle Eastern, African and Latin Countries in geographical and ecological terms, while introducing them to contemporary art music, cultivating their curiosity, imagination, and creativity. Fulcrum Point provides technology and tools that teachers can expand upon and share with their students and their schools’ existing social studies, language arts, and arts programs.
Soundtracks+ is a 6th grade advanced, active-learning program instructing students to sing, dance, and create performances using drums and mallet percussion in traditional songs and dances from around the world. Schools are encouraged to incorporate the workshops into existing language arts, social studies, and visual arts programs to make connections between cultures. At the culmination of five workshops, students demonstrate their creative skills in a final public performance alongside Fulcrum Point teaching artists.
EVALUATION:
Each program is evaluated through pre and post-program quizzes, written essays by the students, comprehensive rubrics provided by the teaching artists, and guidance from our SoundTracks Advisory Board.
